Into the Wilderness: Winter Expeditions with Gregg Media Outdoors

At Gregg Media Outdoors, we specialize in capturing the bold, real, raw, and rugged stories that outdoor brands are built on. This winter, we took on an extreme projected in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Wilderness Area and surrounding wilderness, putting ourselves and our gear to the test.

We produced on-location content for Cast Outdoors. The conditions were harsh, the terrain unforgiving, and the results? Next-level.

A 20-Mile Trek for Remote Ice Fishing

Our expedition took us deep into the wild with a dog sled outfitter. We traveled alongside mushers and their teams through snow-covered forests, frozen lakes, and remote lakes, 20 miles into the backcountry, dragging sleds loaded with ice fishing gear, and a full production load-out. Our goal? Film an immersive wilerness trip in total isolation.

We weren’t just along for the ride, we were there to capture the soul of the experience through film.

The Gear That Made It Happen

This shoot demanded mobility, cold-weather performance, and creativity in tough conditions. Here’s what we ran with—all of it used across every shoot day:

Canon C400 – Our main cam for clean, cinematic footage in all lighting
Canon R5C – Hybrid flexibility for high-res stills and 8K video
DJI Mavic 3 – Crystal-clear aerials and wide landscape shots
DJI Avata – Tight tracking and immersive FPV for action sequences
[Custom 5" FPV Quad] – Mounted with a GoPro Hero12, it delivered buttery tracking shots at speed, even in heavy wind
Otter Outdoors – Their sleds and shelters kept us fishing no matter the elements
MyGOGear – Camera Bags that didn’t quit, even after days in the elements
Wintergreen Northern Wear – Essential cold-weather protection for long days in extreme temps

From cinematic master shots to in-your-face FPV fly-throughs, this combination of gear gave us complete creative freedom—even miles from civilization.

Deliverables That Delivered

Each of our projects included a custom video package tailored to the clients needs. in this case it was

  • A short-form documentary brand film

  • Vertical reels for Instagram, Facebook

  • High-resolution behind-the-scenes photography

  • Header website video

Whether we were filming a musher gliding through the trees or capturing the solitude of a hand-drilled fishing hole, we made sure every moment felt as real as it was.

Why It Matters: Real Content. Real Environments.

We believe outdoor content should be shot where it’s meant to be experienced. No studio setups. No stand-ins. Just raw, beautiful, wild places and the gear—and brands—that thrive in them.

Our clients don’t just get footage. They get stories. They get connection. They get content that builds trust and drives engagement.
